Teaching can be very rewarding, but so is learning. Would you like to refresh your knowledge or learn something new in your field? Summer science institutes are great experiences for doing just that.
There are so many programs out there for teachers! Some are near you; others might require you to reside on campus for a week or two. Some are offered online. Many are free or even pay YOU a stipend to attend. Others cost money, but can be well worth the resources you gain for your classroom. There is something for everyone. You do need to apply/register soon since we are in the last part of May.
I attended many teacher education workshops in my career. Some were suggested by the administrators for reading or general pedagogy, but the most fun and enlightening ones were focused on my subject area which is biology. I often thought that school and district administrators forgot that teachers need to reconnect with their chosen field of study as a student. So, if you haven’t been presented with an opportunity to do summer training in science, you may have to seek it out yourself.
